First DIY Project: Marmot to UQ Modification

I decided not to try a pea pod style mod on this because, I figured, for an ultralight UQ the best thing is to cut off the metal zipper sliders, hood, et al.

Now I have a roughed-in down UQ 72" long, tapered 54" at the head to 30" at the foot.

The cast offs and left-over down fill two one gallon ziplock freezer bags.

Now I must sew on or fashion channels for the shock cord suspension.

Great job. Please post pics of it when finished. About what does it weigh as is?

    Thanks, Lost Biker.

I don't know what it weighs but will try to find out somehow.

    The channels are now on.

Oh yeah - that looks like it'll do very well. What suspension are you going to use? Many here are saying the LeighLo suspension type is the bees knees.

Yes, I looked at that. It seems like an excellent system.

Right now I'm just happy to have sewn relatively straight lines! LOL

Crooked seams are the mark of a true craftsman! How do I know? Everyone here has them. They should be a trademark of hammock forums.

There's a lot of UQ here!

Strung it up to see where I stand -- it will be nice and cozy but there's a lot of it. At the shoulders the corners nearly reach the SRL. Not sure I accomplished the ultralight goal but it'll do for a newby learning experience.

Actually you can fold the excess back into your hammcock : http://gear-report.com/how-to-make-a...-sleeping-bag/

Yes, cool -- grosgrain loops as alternate suspension points. I can do that easy enough.

    Thanks, Lost Biker!
