I also cut the sides off my DN. I don't have the floppy sides that bothered me and it is still about 10 inches wider than a SN. I found the seam on the SN caught my shoulder.

I once purchased a single and tried it out a couple times. always felt like i was going to fall out of it and could not get a good lay. I'm 5'11" and 180 to give you some reference. I quickly returned it for a second doublenest.
Personally my favorite it my doublenest that i have taken the second color floppy sides off of. It is just about the perfect size and somewhat light.
also for much cheaper you could get a tableclothsfactoy.com 60x126 crinkle tafeta table cloth and do a DIY. its about the same fabric but a little heavier. also get AHE woopie sling suspension set. total cost about $35 plus shipping. also only about 4-6 oz penalty in weight over my trimmed down Doublenest with AHE whoopie sling suppension
