I go somewhere in between with my attachment points. I use a good old taught line hitch for my tarp lines. At the end of the shock cords on the hammock there's a pretty big overhand loop (at least that's what was tied when I bought mine. I just tuck that loop inside the loop formed by the tarp guy line. The shock cord loop/knot just kind of jams in there below my taught line hitch sort of like a toggle (adding a toggle would work great too). I've never had it pull loose, there's no knots, and for me it generally ends up being slightly downhill so I don't have to worry about water running into my hammock.
Hopefully my terrible description makes some sense. I'll try and get some pics the next time my rig is set up if anyone is curious.
