I just returned yesterday from a quick overnight camp and approx. 5 mile hike up in Grayson Highlands State Park, Va.
Since the Girl Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary, and the AT is celebrating its 75th, there was a concerted effort to get as many Girl Scouts to hike bits of the AT this year. My daughter's troop hiked a small section from Massey Gap over to Wise shelter for their bit.
It was beautiful up there, a great hike, good weather and we got to see some wild ponies up close. I got to show some of them my hammocks as we did our overnight in the family campground at the park.
Maybe the experiences the girls had will plant a seed in their minds about either hiking the AT or camping in hammocks. It will be great to see what comes of it in the years ahead.
