HOLY CRAP. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but the wind just picked up here in the Fort, and it's freaking FREEZING. I can deal with cold, but I hate the wind so very much. >.<

The wind is definitely quite intense out here as well. Time to learn about those winter tarp pitches

I've got a 16x16 that ought to be able to be buttoned up pretty tight

I've got the Superfly already pitched out back, but was about to take it down because I don't know how much it can take. O_O

One of the things I like about Burning Bear, is the campground is well sheltered from three sides. Plus, the area we used in the past has a patch of trees between the site and the only direction the wind can come from; they make for a good windbreak. Not saying some breeze doesn't get through, but it is rarely more than a stiff breeze.

I remember from heading there for the winter hang that the location on Google Maps was accurate, so according to Google it's about 5.5 miles. I do recall the road being fairly bumpy, so it was somewhat slow going.

Yep, about 5 miles seems right.
It is a little bumpy, but not forest service road bumpy. Biggest time-killer is just the number of hairpins and big turns all the way up.

    Pot Luck

What is everyone bringing for Sat night? Just trying to figure out what is missing. I was thinking of smoking up some buffalo wings. And the girlfriend is making a brownie/desert thing. I can also cook up some different vegetable options.

I'm planning to bring some cold snacks for picking at without worrying about reheating them in the low-low temperatures. Probably some potato/macaroni salad and some random cold cheese or sausages or something, depending on what I dig up at the grocery store.
