this might be a stupid question, but i just want to make sure you had the pads between the two layers rather than laying directly on them.

a spe might be a better option for you if you can't get the air pad to work. you can purchase ccf pads that are wide enough by themselves from gossamer gear and other places online as well.

Yeah, the pads were between the layers. We basically arrived, set up camp, and crashed, so I didn't have much opportunity to really mess with it. I'll try some of your tips as soon as I get a chance and see what happens.

the degree of tightness of the suspension shouldn't matter too much, although someone commented about a really loose hang causing more of a knee ridge while a little tighter (not alot or really tight) seemed better. the ridgeline should keep the sag of the hammock fabric relativly constant.

sorry to start with some obvious things...did you use a pillow? That makes a huge difference to me

I tried both with and without pillows. It was definitely better with the pillow

What kind of pillow? I can only use neck pillows, like those horseshoe shaped traveling pillows. I'm very uncomfortable with an actual pillow under my head.

It was a thermarest travel pillow. They tend to be somewhat flat but I can adjust it's firmness by putting it in a stuff sack

Maybe try sliding up near the head end of the hammock, and just use a neck pillow. Try stuffing a jacket into its sleeve so it only supports your neck...that way your head isn't up as high even if it's closer to the head end of the hammock. Sometimes that helps me when I get the high-foot-feeling. (Sounds like an HF song...)

Has your foot (and only your foot) been dragging through uncle joe's backcountry garden?

When's the release date for that tune?
