ember underquilt

hi i was wondering what you guys think about the eno ember underquilt i have a hennesy hammock+ supershelter and a eno hammock and i want to use it in colder weather and i cant find anything on it

Not a lot of info on the ENO website other than it's synthetic and weighs 35 ounces. I don't see any temp rating on it.

Search for it on YouTube. A couple of members did a review of it. IIRC it has its drawbacks, principal among them that they are narrow and restrict a diagonal lay, and that there is no temp rating on them.

I looked at them a few weeks ago researching a buy and came to the conclusion that I'd be better off spending just a bit more for one of the corrage vendors.

I ended up getting an Arrowhead Equipment Potomac for my HH Deep Jungle. I sent them an inquiry on a Sunday night, got a reply on Monday morning, I paid Monday afternoon and I slept in it Friday night.

It was warm and comfortable and fit the Hennessey extremly well, much better than the one I had made using a down mummy bag or the DIY I bought off a member. I use that DIY on my ENO now.

I have an ember but have not field tested it yet. I am going to try a winter trip this year in the NC mountains and had a thought.

If I were to put my down sweater in between the underquilt and my hammock under my butt or shoulders in theory this should add to the insulation value of my set up. Has anyone ever tried this?

you are really going to need a serious back up plan then. the ember is a 45* in my opinion, and i am a warm sleeper

That has kind of been my thought. I have taken my set up down to the high 30's but didn't know how much warmth the ember would add. I figure I would still use my sleeping bag and pads along with the ember. It will make for a heavy pack but that is all I have for now.

At recent REI garage sale a couple weekends ago I spotted 2 ENO hammocks. I was looking at a singlenest that was torn in a few places. While I was looking at it someone grabbed the other hammock which was a doublenest and it was in perfect condition. I was waiting for the guy to drop it but he put it in his handcart. Reason for return was blank and it was under $35.

Guess I was too slow.

eno is replacing the ember with a real under quilt but I haven't seen a release date for it yet. worst case you could pick up a few poncho liners from a local army surplus store . I turned one into a half uq (it covers from my neck to pasted my bum)and the other is my 3season top quilt. I've used these down to the mid to high 30s with no issue.

I bought both of them for about 50 to 60 bones with tax.

wow just did a price check. eno ember $175 plus shipping. a new river uq from AHE is $155 plus i think it would be $20 shipping $175 and I think you would be much happier. or even a jarbridge for $100.
