I used one 4 x 4 post and put an eye bolt in the side of my shed. The post is 16' from the shed. I have a 12" tarp so it allows 2 feet extra on each end. The post is 10' long with 3.5 feet in the ground leaving a 6.5 foot tall post. I weigh about 230+ and the 4x4 is strong enough.

I have 6x6's 10' and 30 inches in the ground. I have four of them placed in a square around a tree so that I can hang four hammocks from the tree out to the 6x6's. I can also hang from 6x6 to 6x6 which adds 4 more to make a total of 8 possible hammocks hanging at the same time. It's great when the grandkids come to visit.

    Tree to 6x6 = 13 ft
    6x6 to 6x6 = 18-19 ft

Can't post pics from this computer. It's like an X with the tree in the middle, and hammocks out to the end points and also hammocks from end point to end point.

I used 2 - 10 foot 4x4's with 3 feet in the ground cemented about 12 feet apart I live on a beach so this was not stable enough so I ran a 2x4x12 on the ground between the posts and screwed it to the posts. Now I have very little wiggle and is very stable. I would have been nice to have the posts apart a few feet more but this works very well.

I was thinking for myself that putting the posts in the ground tilted 60 degrees away from each other, (30 degrees each) then the stress on the pole would be halved, pulling it into the ground as much as trying to pull it sideways. Shallower hole or less concrete, little longer posts, and all the questions about why you didn't put the posts in upright like any other self-respecting PHD (post-hole-digger).

You gotta teach 'em about hammocks anyway, might as well get in some physics.

I'm just glad I am not operating those post hole diggers... A hole straight down is hard enough, now you add standing on one leg and leaning into it and my response is "not it" because I ain't digging crooked holes on purpose...

I do not recommend 4x4 post. I had 2 of them break. I use pier pilings (think telephone poles) sunk about 4 feet deep
