I have a smallish piece of a small-car sized one. I normally put it in my TQ under my legs. I didn't like how the plastic felt, so with the help of some Spray Glue, I added a layer of light fleece.... Keeps my legs toasty with my 2/3rds UQ.

Zugcat used one at the Western Washington hang. It was around 50 degrees f that night and he said he wasn't cold.

Our local "Dollar Tree" store had them for a buck each this summer. Something to keep your eye out for.

I used one to make a pot cozy, a freezer bag cooking "warmer" and had enough left over to make a folding butt warming pad, sort of like the little z rest pads. Its big enough I can stick it under my back if the UQ isn't doing its job in spots. I just used duck tape on the edges to keep it together.

2 years ago i cut mine as well up, it was a thin one.
One piece of 20x30 cm for sitting on, and something like 150x60 cm taped with some ducttape to a 5 mm same size piece of foam pad, that is normally used under wooden floors for insulation.
Took it with me both winters and works perfect, no cold at all on my back.
Only once i noticed a bit of sweat in the bottom of the hammock, but my sleeping bag was fine and dry.
I prefer this over any underquilt, since the size is so much smaller then any quilt could be, and it costs almost nothing to make it.
If wanted, i can put some pic up somewhere.
