Best hammock for my hubby

I have just got into hammock camping this summer and I have an eno double nest. It is perfect for me. I am trying to get my husband on board with the whole hammocking thing. He is not into camping, because sleeping on the ground isn't his thing. When I bring up hammocking he is just as hesitant. If I can speculate its fear of falling. He is 6'7'' and weighs about 300 lbs. He often is hesitant about things he thinks he might break. I have offered several times to have him try my hammock, but he won't. My question is is that s hammock out there that he can feel safe in? I may never get him to spend the night in one, but even just to hang somewhere with a book, I think he would like it....

There are many hangers here well over his size and weight. Assure him that there are options for folks even over 400 pounds. Warbonnet in particular has options that will accommodate him and has custom made hammocks for folks in the 400+ range. The Traveler 1.7 double would be a similar style to your ENO.

The Hennessey Safari is a great hammock and is good for 350lbs and 7' tall. My husband uses this hammock, and I can't get him to even try any other hammock anymore. It is the bottom entry, which due to his bad knees, he loves. He doesn't even want to try a side zip anymore. My husband highly recommends this. Good luck to you.

What kind of suspension should he use? Mind you I think if he hears any creaking that will scare him...

Whoopies with tree straps, and you try it first to get any creaks out.

I'm 5' 11", 300, there will be a little creaking with straps around the tree until the straps snug/settle with the first use. After that, no big deal.

My brother in law is 6'4" and has me by 50-75lbs easy, he tested my GT Dbl (very similar to ENO Dbl Nest) using Atlas straps and biners, no worries.

That said, I plan on having a double layer 1.7 or 1.9 in the very near future. Straps, OP rings and amsteel to replace stock cords in the hammock. More worried about deadfalls overhead than the hammock or suspension letting me down.

It really would not make much difference. Whoopies would be fine, straps with buckles would be fine. Most of us work at making our suspensions capable of handling at least 1000 pounds of load.

I don't have one so I can't attest personally but PapaSmurf at dream hammocks claims his dangerbirds support 300 lbs per layer and you can get one or two layers. If I am not mistaken the dangerbird 72 is made with taller people in mind.

I've had well over 500 lbs in my double layer taffeta hammock for an extended period of time, and have slept with over 300 lbs in it on several occasions. It might be possible to find a heaver weight single layer that would hold, but at the upper end of the weight ranges, I find the support of the double layers more comfortable.

Given his height, I would definately look at longer hammocks like Papa smurf's double layer dangerbird 72, or the BIAS camper with the double layer option, or even a DIY double layer -- then you can go as long as you want.

For what its worth, a lot of guys here probably wish their wives took this kind of interest, sounds as if your hubby is a very lucky man. As BajaHanger suggested, you be the one to hang it first, it really does help with noises and such.
