I use a DIY 12' hex on my BB. I find the length limits how low I can pitch the tarp. I personally don't have a problem with this. I find the 12'RL provides enough coverage for the ends that I can get by with the higher pitch. I remember seeing an illustration of a 12' and 11' rl tarp over laid on a hammock. Based on this diagram, I agree though that tarp length depends on the hammock you use.

I have a 12ft Winter Palace and find it works just fine with my BlackBird. Just back from a overnight in the Long Leaf Pines ( eat your heart out Shug ) Lots of coverage. Have not had a problem finding a place to set it up or getting it down low.
Mine is gray and the stuff sack is green, Go figure.
I fold mine mine as I am taking it off the tarp ridge line. I find this way is easier than trying to fold it after taking it down.
