Side sleeper who likes to switch directions

As a side sleeper who in normal-bed life typically turns over and faces the other direction one or more times per night, I'm wondering whether that becomes complicated in a hammock. Isn't it a little tight for your face if you switch from facing outward to facing the inward/gathered part of the hammock?

The short answer is “no” for me. I’m a side sleeper and switch side a lot.

I’m the same. I’m heading out for 2 nights after I finish work tonight. Just completed my setup with UQ/UQP ... I’ll let you know how it goes. I have a WBBB XLC - not sure if being asymmetrical will make it less comfortable on one side or the other. Best way to find out is immersion research!!

I'm out for a 6 day/5 nighter. (Hopefully) I won't be using the bugnet, so I'll see how it goes as symmetrical. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to flop around better.

I’m a side sleeper on a mattress, but find myself sleeping on my back or back/side more when in my hammock (chameleon). I switch during the nite a few times on a mattress, but find I don’t move nearly as much in my hammock once I get in the sweet spot.

I flip flop all over the place when sleeping in a mattress - back, side, stomach, other side.

In a hammock, I sleep on my back and don’t budge at all during the night. I wish slept like that in my bed. I do often lie on my side in the hammock when lounging around camp mostly to get a better view or make coffee!

If you’re new to hammocks you might find yourself sleeping soundly on your back. A bed causes pressure points to build up which inspire you to flop. Because of the gentle support characteristics of a hammock, you don’t have those same pressure points so you may find yourself waking up in the same position you fell asleep.

Also, if you do need movement in a gathered end (GE) hammock, you might try a bridge hammock. A bridge hammock has spreader bars at each end and is more like an elevated cot. Dedicated side sleepers seem to prefer it.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I sleep nightly in a hammock. That is not counting the napping and watching videos and movies on the computer monitor too. I like my Hammocktent 90* because it is especially comfortable for side sleeping. But I have also adapted well to side sleeping in GEs. I actually thought about starting a thread on why everybody doesn't do symmetrical hammocks. For me they are the only way to go. I constantly rotate through left lay, right lay, right side lay, and left side lay every night. I can not imagine being limited by a asymmetrical hammock.

I'm a side sleeper in a regular bed as well. I find that I can go to sleep better when on my side in the hammock as well. However I usually find that I wake up on my back regardless of how I went to sleep when in a hammock. Even when going to sleep on my back I always have my head turned to the side though if I do try to go to sleep on my back, which I've usually done while trying out hammocking in colder weather. Sleeping inside now and definitely going to sleep on the side now unless I fall asleep while watching something
