    Amsteel Pre-Fail?

What do you think is going on here?

This is at the end of a bury on a whoopie. Is this what happens before the crash or is it something else? I wonder if it's the end of the bury creeping it's way out? It's not the best taper I've ever done...

I need to look at it again I guess. Any thoughts?

That's gotta be the ends of your bury. There's no way that many fibers could be cut/break accidentally. If you gave yourself plenty of bury, I wouldn't worry about it. Aesthetically, you could open the body of the cordage and push the ends back inside. Good luck!!

Derp. That's what it is alright.

I've been looking at that all da#ned summer wondering what was going on. Wasn't until I took that macro picture and saw it on the screen that I had a clue.

While I agree with the others' assessment, it's a good time to remind ourselves to be vigilant in checking our suspension, especially the tree straps. Suspensions are like brake pads; they need to be replaced periodically.

I'm done with glasses - they're just a cruel joke that don't help me see squat. I would have spent all summer FEELING the whoopie sling trying to figure out what that thing was.

    +1

I check my suspension at beginning of spring and fall every year. Replaced a fraying tree strap last year. Probably would have been safe enough for a few more hangs, but why push my luck when webbing is so cheap?

    I agree 100%!

But I will also say that I have seen/heard of some try and cut corners or do things their own way and not follow the manufacturers recommendations! Please splice appropriately and do each and every step with diligence and extreme attention to details, would hate for someone to get hurt.

I've put a bit of wax on the ends before burying them just to help keep the ends together and keep the "fuzz" from poking out.

I think you may have more going on than just the end of the bury. The individual strands look to be unevenly loaded. It appears that 1 or 2 of the strands may be broken or weakened and the remaining in tact strands have been pulled a little tighter.

The red arrow points to a normal or loose strand while the yellow arrow points to a strand that has been pulled tight. Indicative of a line that has broken strands.
