Hello from Charlotte NC. Good luck on your decision. I'm new myself here so not much I can offer from experience. My strategy was to find a group hang and then try some of the different ones. I ended up ordering a WBBB DL, but also am trying some DIY's. if you pick one and end up not liking it, you can probably sell it on here.

Welcome from the other side of the lake in Oshawa.

As for your choice, let me say this, it is extremely rare to get the "perfect" hammock on the first shot. It took me until my 3rd hammock to find that blissful hang for me. Since then I have experimented with 2 more and finally built 2 others that are my primary hammocks (one 3 season, one winter).

If you go the Blackbird route, and don't like it, you will be able to sell it here and recoup the majority of your purchase price. So there is no real risk in starting with that one. It is a very popular hammock.

    Cheers

Welcome from Toronto. I have used a HH bottom entry in spring, summer and fall since 2007. It's been comfortable in all 3 seasons with a semi inflated Thermarest and sleeping bag top quilt. The last 2 years I've been using a Chrysalis in all four seasons and prefer it to the HH except in spring. I found the HH is better when the blackflies are so thick its like walking around with a black cloud surrounding you. I've heard good things about the Warbonnet BB, but never tried it. If you can make it to a local hang and see the different setups, that would be the best way of figuring out what might work for you. Good luck in your search and you might want to up the limit on your credit card.

Welcome from Vancouver. For a all around good hammock don't forget a ENO double nest. Super comfy, lots of room and fairly cheap. I have a ENO, a bug net and DIY whoopie strings for about $110.

welcome from Northern Ontario. Love my Hennessy, super comfy and was hooked after spending only five minutes in one. Have never tried the Blackbird but have had no issues with the Hennessy in the three years that I've had it.

    Welcome Chris. I'm in Ottawa.

My first hammock was a HH expedition that I got at mec. I slept in it 4 nights in the backyar and really tried to like it but couldn't get comfy. It wasn't long enough for me I think.

I returned it no questions asked to mec (you couldn't tell I slept in it). First time I returned something there and I've bought a ton.

Now I have a wbbb and its great.

I think it's going to come down to personal preference. If you get the HH then at least you can return it at mec too if it doesn't work out.

Welcome from the west coast of Canada!

    Hi Chris,

Welcome from Victoria on Vancouver Island! Both the Hennessy and Blackbird are nice hammocks. I have a WBBB 1.7 DL and slept and napped in it all summer. The hammock wasn't overly hot during the summer months, however I'm only ten minutes from the ocean so cool breezes are more of a concern.

I'm 6'2" 230 pounds and found that the WBBB had lots of room and support.

Good luck with your first hammock!

    Cheers,
