I'm with Doctari about the 2 part piss - it works that way with me too.
One approach to the issue that I have heard about is to take some salt (~0.5 tsp) just before hitting the sack - the extra salt promotes water retention and thus fewer trips to the bushes.
Consuming more liquids than usual was the case (water, not "liquids"). We were on an adult Scout leader training, and for most of us, this was a reasonably new activity (hiking in snowshoes up a hill with backpacks and sleds, breaking trail in 1 foot+ of powder as we went). The instructors were (rightly so) making a big deal about hydrating, as that's what we want to make sure our Scouts do in the winter because you lose more moisture in the cold weather than the warm weather. So, we stopped along the trail and drank water frequently.
I was plenty warm, no issue there. When I have to go, I wake up (thank goodness), and I always fall asleep fast after having done so. It's my understanding that you expend more energy to keep a full bladder warm than you would if you emptied it.
Ewker, I don't disagree with your comment, but that's for you. I'd rather not get out of an incredibly comfortable and warm hammock in 15 degree weather just to hit the head. But that's just me.

2 tips (Don't ask me how I know!)
1. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure the lid is on and tight. Heavy sleepers beware!
2. The "Texas" or "condom" catheter sounds like a good idea, but I think the receptacle would have to be lower than the umm, 'source'. Might be difficult in a non-HH to do.
