One must make 50 posts before being allowed to sell something in the "for sale"?

You know in school (and HF) there are two types of people, those that ask all kinds of questions (good and bad) and have all sorts of comments (good and bad) and then there are those that, quietly without bothering anyone listen, read, and SEARCH for the answers that have been asked so many times before.
I don't think one is more important than the other and I highly value the contribution of others as it helps my own personal learning. Its just that for the latter sort of people 50 posts is like climbing a mountain. I can see the rationale behind it and I am slowly trying to get there. My wife has offered to post for me but I figured I'd spare the rest of you! Maybe one day I'll need to sell something and I'll relent but until then I'll just keep climbing that mountain on my own.

Absolutely. Someone coming here merely to "take" doesn't get to 50 nearly as quickly as someone coming here to also do their share of "give."

The discussion centers around the 50 post requirement for using the For Sale forum... it has not much to do with being PG. I wouldn't consider someone with 68 posts to be a newbie, but that's just me.

I only been here about a week.I really dig the forums.Lots of good info and hope to become a donating member at the first of the year.I agree with the 50 post in the for sale section.It's kind of a slap in the face for someone to come in and buy up or off load gear and never make a real contribution to the community.I've had that on a few forums that I mod on and admin/co-own.It also helps deter spammers also.

No, the 50 posts rule is across the board for everyone. We just feel that it's best for the forum if members spend some time posting and letting the others get to know them a little before selling stuff.

I just realized that Whiteblaze waives their 30 post rule if the member donates, before they can sell.
