Would something like this work for you? It is a tarp zipper.

+1 to this. I will sew if I have to, but if I can use adhesives that would be the bee's knees. What about that paint stuff that was used for the DIY cuben fiber tarp in a sticky? Just curious!

I used some heavy duty industrial strength velcro for attaching the base of my GPS holder to the dash of the mini-van.

It held up for about a year before the sticky wouldn't stick anymore. It was two inches wide and way heavy. I really wouldn't recommend regular self stick velcro as a long term solution.

Velcro isn't THAT hard to sew on. Just make sure that you double stitch both ends and single stitch the long sides or better yet, sew all the way around the outside of the piece and then do an X in the middle like you would for sewing loops on strapping.

I perimeter sew my velcro with a small stitch length. If I think it's a high-stress point, I'll bartack the ends down...

That's pretty cool! I like that idea. I could take my tarp and zipper down the middle... now how to make that waterproof... Maybe a rain flap with velcro... like a rain jacket uses...

    wow...that's alot of work John!

if it's for marine and green house purposes, I wonder how much water would actually get in there.
and if one's doors are slightly angled, maybe not necessary.

but, I have seen flaps on zippers....marine use.

I'm not sure how durable these would be, but with the way they are installed, there wouldn't be much waterproofing needed due to the 3 strips of tape used, and one of the strips are literally right behind the zipper portion on your material. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsSofS6lcjM Certainly an interesting concept, but I'd rather someone else try first
