    will it be enough?

    wooot first thread!
    anyway..
i recently bought some ripstop for a diy hammock, only downside is that i was only able to get 3 yards of it in one whole piece, now my question is will it be long enough, im about 5'10" and i figured after hemming and putting a channel in it it should still be close to 8-8,1/2 feet.
thoughts? questions? advice for my first diy hammock?

    thank in advanced

I'm 5'11" and I would say you're going to enjoy an 11 ft. hammock much more. That's gonna be pretty short for your height.

I'm 5'10" and my hammock is 7' long. I shortened it from 9' about 6 weeks ago and sleep in it comfortably every night - in and out of the house. I think part of the success is that I kept the original width of 65". It's the width that allows you to lie at an angle.

I suppose you can make the hammock with the piece of cloth you have, but keep it as wide as possible. If you decide it's too short, you can either pass it on to someone shorter or re-purpose it into a hammock chair and some stuff sacks.

You could try out the mini spreader bar mod that others have been doing. It should in theory make the hammock feel longer than it is. I have been itching to do this but just started back to college in the evenings and this involves watching dust collect on the thread injector .

I use a GT Nano 7 which is 9ft after hem and channels. I'm 5'10" as well and its big enough for me. If you were conservative with your sewing it would probably be ok. How wide is the piece?

Good point and worth a try! My first hammock wasn't uncomfortable, at 9'...
