Kiwi, Have a look at www.amtcgear.com.au - An australian company who supplies Amsteel and a few other goodies. reasonable price and postage to NZ should be reasonable I would think.
oh- and also, you don't *need* amsteel blue to suspend a hammock- the easiest way (less fussy) is to get some webbing and your hammock and bang- you're hanging!

Check with marine supply shops. Amsteel is commonly used for boating purposes so they are likely to have spools of it taht they will sell by the foot or whatever a metric version of a foot is.
