Whew! First quilt is finished except for final suspension. 21.6 oz and it turned out great.
I ended up using a down eductor system for filling it. You can read about it and download a video--not featuring me. Here is my bathroom workshop:
Filling with down was by far the most stressful part of the process. The eductor system would have worked great if I had a smaller shop-vac. Mine is just too powerful. Next time, I'll try Fronkey's method for stuffing down. Much more civilized; I just need to find some Christmas pants.
I'll post a pic of the finished product later, after I hang my hammock. And I do plan to do a thorough write-up of the process, with more pictures. In the meantime, there are other photos available in a "DIY Underquilt" album in my gallery, with descriptive captions. But one last pic here. The caption reads: "As of my table saw accident, eight weeks ago, I no longer have to worry about that pesky middle finger getting in the way of the sewing machine!"
Middle fingers are always a pain anyways!
Can't wait to see the final product and your write-up!

Okay, here's the finished product. I'll be making some suspension changes when my stuff comes from Dutch. And we'll be in the woods this weekend giving it a try.
No shock cord in side channels. Because it's full length I don't need to adjust position so did not use it. But I am curious about possible air gaps without it. We'll see. I can add it to UQ number two if it seems better.
Yawn... Heading out to the patio to give it a test. Weather is warm, though.
A little late, but FWIW, the guy who came up with the down eductor system actually abandoned the method after using it. I believe he moved on to using a paper towel cardboard tube with noseeum rubber banded over one end. Stuff the tube with down then blow it into the baffle.
Congrats on the quilt construction.
