    What's it all about, Alfie?

I'm getting ready to order some ripstop for my first DIY hammock and need to get some of that knowledge stuff..

I'm 240# on the way to 185. Want to keep the weight down but retain durability so I am looking at 40D 1.5oz

    Questions:

Is 40D heavy enough? Too heavy?

What is the difference between 'pure finish' and calendared, soft and hard hand?

Does any of this make a difference regarding strength, durability and most importantly comfort?

Will DWR tend to make you sweat? (Florida)

Do brighter colors attract more bugs?

    Thanks!

40d shouldn't fail, but will have more stretch than say 70d, and you may or may not like the stretch.

Calendared means squished by two hot rollers, making the fabric down proof. Pure finish is the same fabric not squished. Calendared fabric isn't as soft to the touch (hard hand) as pure finish. Soft hand just means it feels soft when touched. I prefer soft hand fabrics but they do tend to be a little more slippery in my opinion.

DWR in itself will not cause you to sweat, but it will not breathe as well hence not allowing your sweat to dissipate.

I have a black hammock and my wife has a bright purple hammock and of the mosquitos I polled we looked equally tasty beneath our bug nets. I usually have 20-30 of those evil creatures staring at me when I wake up in my hammock in July and she has about the same.

    Edit: love your wiemeraner picture
