    Tarp Care

I am in the process of making a 1.1 ripstop silnylon tarp and am curious on the best way to pack, store, and sealing needed.

is it ok to smash it up into a tiny stuff sack and put in the bottom of my pack? or should I fold it? will that harm the fabric or it's waterproof abilities?

It is perfectly fine to stuff a silnylon tarp into a stuff sack. Many people use snakeskins on their tarps for ease of deployment in windy conditions.

As for seam sealing it is a good idea to do the main ridgeline seam and panel pulls. A product like SilNet from McNett or the Permatex Flowable Silicone Windshield Glass Sealant available at most auto parts stores will do the job.

Id recommend leaving the tarp near the top of the pack, or side pocket. If it starts to rain, it'll be the first thing to put up.
Smash it, roll it, stuff it...no problemo.

I'm not a stuffer. I'm a roller. I keep one end attached to my ridgeline and fold it in half then in half again. I disconnect it and fold it a couple more times. Then I roll it and wrap the lines around it. Seems to work well and makes it faster (for me) to unroll and re-deploy. ymmv.

    I use snake skins.

So when I'm tearing down, I'll roll both sides together from a hanging corner towards the top middle and pull th eskin for that side, then repeat on the other side. Then I fold the skined tarp a few times till I have a package about the size of a Nerf football and wrap the ends of my ridgeline around the tarp to keep it all closed up nicely. I then toss it in the back mesh pocket of my pack.
