I use 1/2" polyester tubular webbing from Sailrite.com
Some folks go with "mule tape", but (1) difficult to find as little as you'd like online, and (2) the weave is considerably looser than the tubular webbing, which causes an odd squashing of the webbing when you do bar tacks to create a loop. Nothing in the HF obituaries suggests that one of these have failed, but I'll go with the sailrite stuff.
Now if I was building a hammock for someone closer to 300 than to 250 pounds I'd probably go with 0.75".
Grizz
(alias ProfessorHammock on youtube)
How about black ??
Can someone tell me (us) what the difference is between poly webbing that's flat and the tubular?
Tammons, I found black 1/2" poly webbing at Quest but it's the flat webbing as opposed to the tubular webbing Grizz recommends!
1/2" polyester webbing, 1800 #...http://www.strapworks.com/product_p/pewsc12.htm
The difference is thickness/strength. The tubular is basically 2 layers of the standard webbing.
Looking at 1" for ease of comparison on the same website:
The TUBULAR has a rating of 2700 lbs where as the FLAT has a rating of 1500 lbs.
I used mule tape on my bridge project. My girlfriend hasn't used it much but its held my weight for a few nights. (I've got to test it right?)

FWIW I use 3/8" polyester webbing from strapworks. If I remember correctly, it has a rated strength at 1500#, greater than the dynaglide or STS-12-75 line I used for the remainder of the suspension. Never had a problem with my 200# wt.
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
