    Marking Fabric Woes

Ok, so I've been DIY'ing for quite some time, finally went and found a great price on down, and decided a LONG time ago that I'd make a Down UQ.

To mark an place my baffles, I knew I had to mark the fabric. So I bought a fabric marking pencil... it make lines... but I really couldn't easily see them...

So back to the store... Bought a white marker for temporarily marking fabrics... still... not really visible.

So back to the store... Tailor's chalk marker... looks great... until you shuffle or move the fabric...

So... Forget the store... out to the garage... the answer: SILVER SHARPIE!

I was desperate enough to not care if there was bleeding... Of course, I saved my life by taping down a cheap table cover... Silver marks on the dining room table could mean disaster. . .

Success! Minimal bleed through (with a light touch, there was NONE on the 1.1 Olive Green 2nd's purchased from DIY Gear Supply...

Lines are sharp, bright, and I can see them THROUGH the noseeum!

Thought others could use this tip!

I'm glad to hear this worked! I was thinking a silver paint pen, but I've got a silver sharpie on hand! Well done, sir!

Anxious to see the final product!

I have found that a chalk line works wonders! Nice, bright, and straight!

I use the same color sharpies for whatever fabric. I find the silver or gold metallic sharpie just flakes off if you rub it, but stays on long enough to sew and handle. I just run my fingernail down the line and it comes off.

I am new to making my own gear and am just finishing my first quilt as well (using the same olive seconds ). I used masking tape to mark all of my lines, but I will probably grab a silver sharpie now as well. The tape helped get nice straight lines, but I went through almost two rolls, even at a buck a roll, I bet a sharpie would work out to be cheaper. It will also be nice to have crisp lines when I start my backpack this week.
    Thanks!

I got all my baffles sewn to the inner side... 3 sewn to the outer when I realized I skipped baffle #2...

Ugh... spent the next 30 minutes un-doing 10 minutes worth of sewing...

    I'll pick it up tomorrow . . .

Oh man, that stinks. I've been there and can relate.
