    Hammock fan idea

I was looking around for something else and came across this USB powered fan. It might be overkill and too heavy for ultralight types. If I figure it correctly, the fan would run for about 11 hours on a solar battery like this.

My thought would be to hang the fan from the ridge line, charge my battery pack all day and be cool all night. Don't have the weather or money to try it out right now. Anyone see any major issues with a setup like this?

Only the weight and cost. A 9v battery and normal computer fan works pretty well.

How long do you get off a 9v?

I'm kind of curious how many people are already starting to carry USB charging packs for GPS, phone or whatever. If that were the case the only added thing would be the fan. I was thinking I could build my own, but by the time I figure out adding a rheostat and adapter it would be easier to buy one like this. With some hunting around you could probably lighten it. Problem is that computer parts places don't list weights.

Pretty much. Although I'm wondering if it's something slightly different. Case fans are designed to run off 12v and USB is 5v. So, I'm not sure if you could use a standard case fan for this.

I have a really small 386 cu fan that will run on 4 aaa's . Though it sounds like a mosquito!

It is about 1.25 inches across and uber-light

They have some smaller cage-less fans that I found. I'm not sure how they'd get along with my scalp and a bug net though.

I live in Maine and sometimes I'm envious of folks trying to solve problems like that :-)

This thing is awesome and I've gone 2 trips having the fan run 6-8hrs each night on 4AA's and I could probably squeeze another night or two out of the batteries. it's adjustable, quiet, powerful for it's size, packs light, and I can move it all around my ridgeline. And if needed one could use a solar recharger to recharge the batteries. The only thing I wish is they'd put a led light on it...and maybe a radio.

I saw that one but didn't think much of it. I'll have to remember it now. Which of the three speeds where you running it at?
