    Trying new setup

    Hi,

I would like to try the whole ring buckle thing and I can get Some Amstell blue for cheap, I was just wonder if I would be able to use the Amsteel Blue 7/64" with the ring buckles, or should I use the rope another way or should I just not worry about the Amsteel and get something else to use with the ring buckles. Thanks

    Dameon

you can use webbing only with ring buckles, or you can use webbing for the tree and line on round ringbuckles using the garda hitch. do an advanced search here for ring buckles and for garda hitch. you might have to get a different kind of rope for the garda hitch though, it's the slickest line there is.

Well if the Amsteel won't work with it very well what would be a good rope to buy and use with ring buckles?? But it's just that I know someone who will sell me 200 feet of the Amsteel blue for 20 bucks

I'm planning to try out the garda hitch the next time I hang my warbonnet, but finish it with a slipped buntline, which is quick to tie and untie. In other words, the only purpose for the garda hitch is going to be to hold the hammock in place while I adjust it and eyeball the placement and level, and then the garda hitch will guarantee it won't slip.

Sweet, that is some awesome rope. Let us know how it works out.

When you get it, can you post the weight?

If you don't need all 200' I'll take be glad to take some of the extra off your hands.

I don't have any way to weigh it, and I'll let you know if I have some left to get rid of, oh and what size rings should I get, and I guess I should get regular rings not D-Rings right??

I think most folks are using rappel rings from SMC - they are lightweight and rated for climbing loads so guaranteed not to bend under your weight. They cost less than 3 bucks at REI.

Dameon - did you try this yet? How did it work?
