Banning Mills is a cool place to check out, I went there twice before I was a Hanger but I would like to go back now. The Zip lines are awesome especially the screaming eagle.
I'm in for sure! Im waiting to hear from two other guys about coming up as well. I will be there late Friday evening hopefully with Madog and Byronalpha in tow. So if you hear a woo buddy coming down the trail let us know where y'all are!
2ply..did you get to check out the site this weekend?
I so wanted to make this, I live 20 minutes from helen, but I was invited to join some friends on a okefenokee kayak/camp trip that weekend. Cant miss the chance to hang with the gators! Now i have to decide BMBH, or my Expedition, I hear a bug net is a must.
Sorry you can't make it but it sounds like a great trip. With the cooler weather hopefully the bugs will not be too bad. Keep an eye out for those pesky gators.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
I am in favor of all the pesky Gators I can find!
If anyone wants to get in some trail time -
Wednesday night I'm hangin on Blood Mt, then Thursday plan to hike the Coosa Backcountry Trail (13 mi loop that begins, exits then returns to Vogel State Park).
Coosa BT is full day hike or an easy overnighter.
2Ply, did you visit Raven Cliff Falls this weekend?
See ya'll Friday. I'll listen out for 'whoo buddy!'
Plan as of now: Wednesday afternoon, park at Vogel and get required permit; hike clockwise from there decked out in orange to Blood Mt, where I'll camp. Thursday, continue clockwise and finish at VSP. You're right, it can be a tough single stretch but this way it's a short day followed by a not-so-long one.
Thursday night unsure, may go on to Raven Cliffs Falls.
Just got back from Raven Cliffs. Looks like our best bet is close to the main parking area. When you pull into the parking lot it is a counterclockwise circle. Go to the far back corner and there is a trail/road that goes back to a nice large group camp area with several fire rings and lots of trees. The next best area is down the forest service road about a mile and there are a couple of overused camp areas there on the left. As a last resort we could hike the Raven Cliffs trail and find some spots there. Hope this helps.
