I have an IX UQ and really it is all about the sealing up the ends. If you shift at all you have to re-adjust it. It is kind of annoying...I agree. but, in the land of DIY...you kinda get what you pay for

Here is a vid on how i set mine up...it has taken me to high 20's and i was cool, not cold but cool. 40's and above....works like a charm. For 20's and less I actually use my thermarest with the IXUZ....and then I am super hot. Like sleeping in the teens with just a t-shirt on.

    Gooooood luck

Great first trip and report! Thanks! Others have already commented on eliminating the air gaps between the hammock and the under quilt, and closing the ends up tight to prevent cold seep. The route looked really interesting!

As far as mushrooms go, you can ID them if you like, but do not try to eat any of them unless you are an expert! The nutritional value is not much, and the downside danger is very high. Pretty to photograph, though!

Congrats on all the efforts, in making, packing, and using your new gear!

Whoooo Buddy....yeah, tighten up that UQ. You had a lot of very new things being tested for the first time. Good job. Best way to learn is to fail then figure out what went wrong and then rectify.
    Terrific job.

One of those mushrooms looks a lot like Lion's Mane... Out here in the Pacific Northwest there are no toxic lookalikes but if you were even remotely looking at trying mushrooms you need books for your area to be even remotely sure.

    Good report.
    I like the title too.
Sounds like the start of a good joke......
I totally agree with the post above, you have to know which mushroom/fungus is good to eat and which are toxic for sure. Those lookalikes can do you in.

THanks guys. I'm definitely not going to eat any mushrooms! But the crazy one does indeed look like lion's maine.

On the IX UQ, I did test it on the balcony with much tighter suspension and it seems to be a bit better, but it was quite warm. Now that Sandy is gone and my power is restored, I'll put the hammock back out and continue testing. Temperatures should drop under 40 tonight, so it should be a good test.

You can eat that furry looking mushroom. One night on top of Glastenbury Mountain in VT I met a few guys that had taken some off the trees on the trip up the mountain. They boiled them up then added some spices and what not to their "soup" and ate them. They seemed to enjoy it...

Nice trip report. Like with anything else, practice makes perfect...
