Well have been planning a trip to Panther Creek Trail for a few months now. Just went last weekend. It was a great learning experience and we had a great time....even though we never made it to panther creek.
We got there late and had a hard time finding east cowpin trail to start the hike. We finally made it to a gap called Dyer Gap where the road closed and since it was getting late in the day, decided this was the hike trail in. Since there was no sign we were still unsure but trekked on. Well turns out we were actually on the Benton mAckaye trail. Not even close to where we needed to be. We ended up hiking about 9 miles in right past Hatleys Gap.
We luckily found a small trickle that formed a puddle that served as our water source for the weekend. Thank god for the msr filter. It was very windy (thanks to our dumb choice of campsite) and cold but my HG uq worked like a charm as I watched my other two friends freeze their butts off.
Can't wait to go back and actually make it to Panther Creek.
