Ridgeline questions from Noobie

I am using the hammock calculator app and it works great for getting a comfy hang, but my Ridgeline is very droopy when I get in.
I am hanging in my basement from a GT UL (9.5' or 114"), so I pre-adjusted my whoopie to 95" (approx 83%).
I captured each loop of my Ridgeline with the whoopie at each gathered end of my hammock.
I put in all the calculations and got in my hammock and the Ridgeline is almost resting limp on my head.
Any ideas or help?

Here are my stats for this hang:
14.8' distance between anchors
79.5" hang height
47.9" suspension length (per side)
95" ridgeline
114" hammock length
I am 6'3", 225lbs.

I set everything up to the inch from his calculator.

I have used the calculator and it has worked well before. Even double checked your numbers. It sure does seem your straps are pretty high. Try forming an L with your thumb & index finger. Thumb parallel with tree or post and finger with ridge line. There's your approx. 30 degree angle.

I lowered my tree straps and shortened my whoopie slings a little and it tightened up the ridgeline. I just wish the calculator worked for me. I have ordered a BIAS WWM double layer, so maybel the 11' length will work out better.

Another question:
Is the 30 degree angle BEFORE you get in the hammock? Because mine slumps to more like a 45 degree after I get in.

Yes. Before you get in. Hard to do while hanging there😊. It isn't exact but gets you pretty darn close. For what it's worth, set the foot end a few inches higher than the head too. It keeps you from sliding down in the hammock all night. I spent my first overnight in a hammock pulling myself back up every little while.

Your first photo looks close to 30* and the hang calculator should be on the mark.

So.....my assumption is that you got the hammock length from GT's "specs". That's your mistake. That measurement is usually given for the raw material before hemming, etc.

My GT UL measures ~105" so 83% of that is 87" and probably closer to what your ridgeline should be.

With all of that said, 83% is only a suggested starting point (that many hangers find to be perfect). What you are attempting to do is find the most comfortable hang and set your ridgeline for that length so it can be easily repeated.

The only thing you probably need to do is shorten the ridgeline to match your hang. I'll bet it's close to 87".

Thanks, I will measure the GT UL tomorrow and see. I did shorten the ridgeline and it tightened up and I had a comfy lay. Can't wait to get my WMM.
