kiknhanger, i really would like to see what set up you have and others too. i guess ill end up making my decision then. but based on this forum here, i might stick to my straps. most of the places i hang around here are fairly close together.
I used the original (heavy) carabineer on my DN for about 6 months and just some climbing rope and tied knots . I'll admit that I like tying knots. I think knot tying is a great skill that you only keep sharp by practicing.
That being said, I recently swapped out the original carabineer for whoopies and I can't see myself going back. The whoopies are easy to adjust and really knock down my set-up and take-down time. I'll just have to find other ways to practice my knot tying.
well i think ill have to wait and see. some people say its faster, that confuses me cause i thought using atlas straps was pretty fast! um... decisions..
I would't say its faster to set up, but it is faster and easier to adjust.
I actually use both straps & whoopies. I put Python straps on the trees (Atlas straps came out recently, due to all the years of slap strap complaints), then use a biner to connect the whoopie to the strap. The adjustments are much quicker for me using the whoopies.
Check out my gallery for some photos on how to switch them out...
thanks guys, but i think im going with something similar to this.

I already have switched mine! Just make sure you have enough weight rating to handle that big frame of yours!
i loved the slapstrap pro's and replacement carabiners. the biners saved me weight and got my whole ENO SN down to 18oz. and they really do just slap up there. there's some distance between those loops but i found taking the straps higher or lower up the tree would fine tune. and i never noticed a bit of stretch at all.
but then i realized i was getting some calf pressure. i wanted to stick with the simplest possible solution so i got real long strapping and just went from the whipping to the tree. with 3 or 4 go-rounds on the tree i found i didn't need any hardware or knots at all on the tree side. so that was even easier but weighed more.
after that i picked up a couple of different HH's and just went with their stock suspension. eventually i switched from figure8 to tautline and that's where i am now.
tomorrow i'm expecting a new WL Snipe to show up in the mail and that comes with Whoopsies. i'll let you know how it goes with those.
