That was fun to watch. Great to see Grayson Highlands, the ponies, and Wise shelter (where we will be in January!).

    Thanks for posting.

    Ahhh, memories!

Thanks, you have some pictures that I either didn't take, or they didn't come out. I guess it's my penalty for using a disposable camera, sheesh!

Enjoyed that, particularly the music with walking references. Lyle Lovett--yeah!

Good job. Nice music. You should look into getting a device to mount your camera to the end of your hiking pole.

    Stickpic!

I am SOO getting a stickpic for my next video! I did not even know about them when I took this one.

Thanks for noticing the walking songs! LOL. The first one is Jackson Brown "These Days". The second one is Marc Cohn "Walking in Memphis" and the last one is Van Halen "Right Now".

I am trying to get a REAL camcorder for Christmas...Maybe I will have it for Mt Rogers!

    Hey Stormcrow.....
Thanks for joining the video gang here on HF. Fun to sip some strong coffee a here at my desk and watch you hump a load and have fun doing it. I love how you say how much fun your having and it is always good to thank your wife. Sets you up for more trips.
How did you do the AT map in the beginning? Is it a special program or did you hold the camera to the TV on a DVD? Curious am I.

Ya that was bugging me all night too. Tell me that wasn't flash based
animation, otherwise I have to get real jealous in a hurry.
I need a simple, free flash based animation program in a bad way

    Animation expert I am not...

I am no expert with animation but I did figure out how to do what I wanted...

I got a free, open source screen recording program that I used.

I took a print screen off of google maps--the terrain view--- of the first portion of my hike (I think it was from Comers Creek to Old Orchard shelter). I then pasted my picture into Photoshop (or whatever photo editing software you have). Once in Photoshop, I just recorded myself drawing a line on the trail. It kind of sucked and it took some trial and error getting the video to to be smooth enough but it worked out great. In the end I just traced it REALLY slow and then sped it up in post production when I stuck it into Vegas Video. Pretty low tech approach but I will be doing more of it so I should get better at it.

The screen recording software I used is located here

Sorry it wasn't the simple flash based program you were looking for Turk but it worked for me. I can see a few other uses for it as well...

Good call on giving thanks to the wife too Shug. She is a trooper! When I leave for a trip, she is stuck at home with all 4 kids...AND we home school
AND we have a new born! She will be coming with me to Mt Rogers though. I wonder if she is going to be the only girl there?

    Adam

P.S. Great job on your latest video Turk!
