    Using 1.1 RS for hammock

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. All I could find in a search was 1.1 is rated to 210lb. I want to DIY a hammock. DIY gear supply seems to have the best prices. However, Scott has been out of the 1.4 material I was going to use for a week now. My question is can I use the 1.1 ripstop nylon for a single layer hammock? I weigh 180lbs. Also will it still be a comfortable hammock for my weight? It would be nice, as far as cutting pack weight to use this stuff, however, I would still like it to be a reletively comfortable hammock. Thanks!

I'm 300 and am in a 1.1 double. Over the "rating" but very comfy.

I'm 210 lbs and have been using a 1.1 single layer hammock for a year with no problems and in comfort every night.

yes, 1.1 will work. It will be a bit stretchy than 1.9 (or 1.4) but should hold your weight. Some people like the stretchy, others don't. If you want, try getting twice as much and making a double layer hammock, if you leave the sides open you have a built in pad pocket.

my hammock gear weights total: 2430g (~86oz)
    Winter: total 2521 (~89oz)

Thought of that, but I dont really need it, as I have an UQ. Dont want the weight if I dont need it. The 1.9 stuff he has, I didn't care for any of the colors. Thanks for the advice.

I'm 165 and have a single 1.1 I love the weight. But recently sampled a double 1.9 it was surprising how more secure it felt. Now I'm looking hard at a double of some sort but like you have an UQ so there little need for a pad pocket. I have shoulder issues and any amount of stretch causes me pain. Just my thoughts.
