Just my bottom got cold... why?

The SO and I camped this past weekend and my azz got cold.

A few facts: Used a 20 degree full length UQ. Night time temps reached the mid 20s. Little to no wind. My top side was fine, warm actually. My back was fine. Most of the night my feet were fine. At one point I put the palms of my hands under my azz and felt the temp of the hammock underneath me. That area didn't feel cold to the touch, more like room temperature.

Any ideas of why this part of my body felt cold while other areas were fine?

Must not have been snugged up in that critical area. Tighten suspension maybe.
    What type of UQ?

I agree w/Shug. When I first used an UQ my thought was "snug but not too tight so I won't affect loft".

Guess what? I got a cold butt.

I thought it was something else for quite awhile and nothing I tried worked. Then I tightened the suspension a little more than what I thought was needed and...... ........WAAAARMMMMMM cheeks from that point on.

check how tight you have the ends drawn. I know in my phoenix if I draw the ends too tight I get an air pocket where my rear is and end up getting chilly! Same is true if the suspension is too loose.

Yep, no doubt about it, UQs can have some fiddle factor, though it seems to vary with not only the UQ but the hammock used.

So, what kind of hammock and what kind of UQ?

It's surprising how much difference even a small amount of space can make not having the UQ snugged up against you.

    +1 on tightening the suspension.

We call that CBS, or "cold butt syndrome".

I think this might be it.

The shock chord along the sides is tight.

I'm going to try loosening the ends a bit and tighten the sides a bit. I'm also going to bring a sleeping bag just in case!

I had the same problem with my phoenix and then the last time I snugged up the quilt BEFORE tightning the ends.Zero gap and I was warm.Keep in mind it took me about 6 or 7 hangs to get it close. Shug and others have things really dialed in and some things you just need to learn through trial and error. He preaches this and that is why I am a follower of the "Shug Emery Church of the Hammockers".Also another Shug tip is to have a small piece of reflectex handy for early morning cold spots.I tried this and of course he is right.I move around a lot which is not great for staying warm and toasty through the night.
