Do we want to plan for any large group meals we can all contribute towards? I can bring bacon. We should also decide how far we want to hike in, it looks like we could just hike the NCST for a few miles or even trek over a lake or two pending on ice conditions.
I think I'd rather bring our own meals, and if people want to be nice and bring bacon, or other goodies to share that's great! For me, I like the self sufficiency of doing my own thing for meals. But as CryOTheWild will tell ya, I'm always happy to eat your food too just my 2 cents.....

I'm with hiking dad on food, 1/2 the fun of camping is cooking...

I'm fine with bringing own meals, it'll be that much less to worry about. I will still bring bacon I do plan on bringing a 2 gallon aluminum pot for making water though. That is something we can all share and it sure beats making water in a small mess kit.

My suggestion would be to park at the circled parking area, then head south to the lake and continue down the west side of the lake. I marked the east side by mistake. There is a nice trail from the parking lot to the lake. Then from there we could either walk the lake or through the woods.

Its about between 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the lake. The far south end of the lake is between 1 to 1 1/4 miles from the parking lot.

Being national forest we can camp anywhere, just has to be 100 ft. from water or existing trails. It is mixed hardwoods so firewood shouldn't be an issue.

Forgot to mention I ordered a new folding buck saw from fourdog. Should be here in a week or so. Have access to another large pot for melting snow if we think its needed. Hopefully will be able to borrow some old school snowshoes next week as well for this trip.
