I don't try, but will explain if people ask. I also don't want all the good trees taken.

Like many, I converted after watching a few Shug classics. That was after coming across Just Jeff's website. Since then 5 other adults in the troop and 8 boys have converted. We are in the middle of a hammock camping merit badge course for 6 boys and they are so enthusiastic about it. The folks like Just Jeff, Shug and so many more here are real "force multipliers" not to mention really great guys.
Happy Trails to one and all.

I've converted half of the 29 scouts in our troop and I am currently helping a family who adopted 20 kids to outfit their home with hammocks. Imagine the space savings of 20 hammocks over 20 twin beds! I'm loving hanging. I owe a great deal of my know-how and confidence to Shug who is entertaining and informative. For those who have back pain and are worried about hammocks. I have less pain after sleeping in my hammock than I do sleeping on the hard ground with a foam pad. (I was the king of putting my tent over an invisible boulder.)

I'm the scoutmaster in our local troop. So far two boys have gotten off the ground and have taken to the trees. This winter, I think we are going to spend a couple of out troop meetings and let all of the scouts make a DIY hammock.

Converted GF, GF's best friend, kidbrother and a few friends who enjoy outdoorsy activities.

I wrote about this in another thread yesterday, but it's worth repeating: the hammock/DIY-bug is catching on in my group of friends. Not everybody understands though, and I get that.
I mean, I even have to laugh myself sometimes when I'm sitting by the sewingmachine, and my fully tattooed arms makes that crazy contrast to the pink, green, shiny burgundy or whatever fabric I'm working on.

When we meet up, me and my hammockfriends, all we talk about is different sewingmachines, fabrics and techniques - and of course how great all of our new gear will be out in the wild!

Had someone told me last year, that me and my "tough" friends would be sitting around my kitchen table (often without beer these days, that in itself is scary..) discussing various stitches and so on, I would've politely hit him on the nose.

I don't know who coined the phrase, but I love to refer to my wife's machine as a "Thread Injector" It just feels better on the manhood nerves to say it that way. Now I have found my own thread injector second hand. I'm stoked!
