    under quilt/top quilt??????

    If you had the money to buy ether a top quilt or under quilt which one would you buy first?

    Under quilt first, you can use a sleeping bag or blankets as a top quilt. For that mater you can use a pad for bottom insulation but an under quilt is a nice upgrade.

    I concur with cleandirt. Underquilts are so much nicer to use than pads.

    i too have to agree with cleandirt, uq first, much more comfortable than a pad,imo.

    As someone who recently made the decision, underquilt hands down. For me it's a pain trying to wrestle with a pad to get it into just the right position underneath you. Trust me. I still don't have my underquilt yet, but I was just informed that it is now in the construction phase. After borrowing an underquilt from EastTex a couple weeks ago, and then going back to a pad last weekend, I never want to go back to a pad unless I'm going to ground.

    Yep. Underquilt. You can cover up with almost anything, but getting something to keep you warm underneath really needs to be purpose designed. Probably the only real piece of "must have" hammock gear that is.
