    Dangerbird overcover and sock

Anyone know how well the overcover on the DB works with a winter sock? About how much temp difference each adds seperately and in combination?

Also can the DB come custom for "lefties"?

The DangerBird is not side specific, you can lay head left-feet right or head right-feet left. It is not like the WBBB.
I never tried the DangerBird with a sock. I didn't feel the need with the DangerBird's cover.

    Well, yes and no.
In netless mode, you can lay left or right. If you use the side tie-outs, they will self adjust to the way you're laying.
The net and overcover are built for either right lay or left lay. For leftys, we just flip the net and cover over before sewing on the zippers.

Building a left lay is no problem at all, but I do need to know ahead of time.

I went backpacking two weekends ago with my Dangerbird. I had a 30° underquilt and a 40° top quilt. I didn't have a thermometer, but there was frost, so the nighttime temperature definitely got below freezing. Since I only had a 40° top quilt, I zipped up the overcover and was toasty warm all night. No frost on the inside either.

In my opinion, if you have a Dangerbird, you don't need an additional winter sock: the overcover does the same thing.

I was out again last week. It was 29*-31* both nights. My thermometer read 43* when on the inside ridgeline. That was with the TC zipped, a 2QZQ Bottom cover, HG 40* Incubator & 40* Burrow.

My side pull out ripped out on the DB. Now I don't have a loop to hook my UQ to.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the idea of the undercover. My PLUQ with an added sheet of InsulBright gets me to 32* with minimal dressing. So i think the UC will get me the additional comfort for most occassion I will be camping with the scouts here in VA. I'll bring an additional fleece sleeping bag for the real cold trips. I use a 20* bag as a TQ.

This may be a silly question, but do you have to use the tie-out with the Dangerbird?

@Labrador No you don't have to use the tie-outs, but if you do, it gives the hammock a more roomy feel and keeps the sides away from your face.
