Zing-it is very popular because it is strong and does not stretch. It's also very low bulk and weight and it is spliceable.
Don't let life get in the way of living.
I tend to use zing it or no-tangle for both right now. I have also used dacron cord (kite line) with really good results.

I use the first line in this link. I use the smaller 1.25 for the tie-outs, and the 1.5 for the tarp ridgeline because it fits Dutch's tarp flyz real nice. Dutch hook.
I use 1.75mm Zing-it because it's visible without bring reflective (yellow), doesn't tangle, and it's light (although not the lightest option). I buy the 180' spools from www.reddenmarine.com

+1 to what MAD777 said ^. Zing-it works really well and is spliceable.
Zing it all the way, great stuff...
Zing-it for both, although I'll often use short webbing straps for just around the trees and then attach the ridgeline to that.

Stein Throwline for the ridgeline (very similar to Zing-it)
Polyester covered 1.5mm dyneema for the tie outs- its much less tangly and sheds the dirt better.
