Do woopie slings wear at the tree end bend? I was thinking of using a biner
with a wheel to prevent abrasion.

While that would be pretty cool to add that to your suspension, I think it would be overkill. I have not heard on anyone having problems with whoopies in the manner that you asked about. I know that I have not had any issues with whoopies at all as far as wear is concerned. Just my $.02.

With a working load rated at 1 kN (about 225 pounds) I don't think these carabiners are strong enough to use in your suspension. While your idea is fun, I agree with raiffnuke that it is unnecessary. Don't mean to rain on your parade!

The rating is on the wheel not the carabiner, so in all likelyhood it would probably flatten or distort to some degree and would not spin freely. However, I doubt there would be much spin anyway. It certainly would not hurt! It weighs 10g, do you wanto carry an extra 20g?

As for the question of wear on the whoopies, I've wondered that myself. Not so much with `biners since their edges are round, but more when using DutchWare / Elephant Trunks / etc. since those pcs are square-cut and the Amsteel or whatever you're using has to bend over those edges.

I have no experience with these items since I've only used quick-links and MSH setups on my rigs, so maybe someone with a lot more hang time can jump in here . . .

Opie, (he's the guy who started whoopieslings.com), used to offer a rope thimble (like this only smaller) The design may still be available from Stu @ whoopieslings?

Thanks for all the good imput. I have not seen that Petzl biner in person, but, since looking at these posts, now see from pictures, that is must be quite small.

The reason I ask this question is my Hennessy tree straps, now going on several years of use are getting cut through at the loop ends, where the hammock rope ties through. Not unexpected, and not a fault of the quality by any means. But now I just love those woopies since I have started using them, over the origonal HH rope.
