Gear testing in and around NYC

Apart from some of the local State Parks that I will oftentimes field test my gear at before going out on a backpacking trip, I was wondering if anyone knew of any non-park /closer to NYC areas that it's safe to field test their hammock gear. Living in an apartment building doesn't offer much in the way of available trees without trespassing.

    Thanks in advance.

Kittatinny is not far from you in Jersey...also the poconos and Catskills are nearby, the Appalachian trail is near the tappannzee bridge area. I don't think there is anything closer than that.

    Thanks for the welcome, guys.

The AT and those others options are a good 45 minutes from me (Westchester Co), and I know those areas very well; I camp a lot at Fahnestock State Park.

Unless anyone has other suggestions it looks like I may have to camp up there tonight before my trip this weekend in PA.

I have some new gear to test: Mamba TQ. Yeti UQ, and I should be receiving Warbonnet's travel sock today. I was hoping to field test.

Hey I live in Westchester co as well. I do mine at a small park off of rt 117 just outside Pleasantville called graham hills. Mostly known for mountain biking and people that like to take short hikes. It's just across the road from pace college.

Thanks, johnnieboy - this sounds pretty ideal. I'm waiting to hear back from Saxon Woods Park, also.

I don't want to camp, per se, just sleep out and field test gear.

I go to Astoria Park all the time, Just outside of the City and i set up my gear there with no problems. If fact i think i started a trend in Astoria Park. Not to mention you will have a great view of the city skylight. Hit me up if you are around.

That's actually closer - right across the bridge for me.

So you're allowed to actually park overnight and hang through the night, too?
