I'll be bringing all of my hammocks, if for no other reason than just to show them off.

So what does your starting blank look like is it rectangular or are the sides cut to be lower?

I like a rectangular fully symetric hammock. No dedicated footend, nor dedicated side so I am able to sleep facing any direction I wish.

Material came in today 3 yards of Momentum50 from Thru-Hiker. Weighs a whopping 3 1/2 ounces, this is going to be one seriously lightweight hammock.

Ahh, sorry about your hammock... at least we know 220lbs is definately too heavy for M50 now,and you've saved me some cash was the end just whipped or sewn? sorry but even with the volume up full on my laptop I couldn't hear it that well. Just wondering if it was stitching holes that caused the failure or if the fabric itself.

On the bright side you will very soon have some sul stuffsacks and or a tq/uq shell or uq protector... or something cool and light anyway.

The ends were sewn and gathered, but it failed about an inch below the stitch line. I'm not sure why it failed where it did, or when it did. Perhaps I torqued it differently when getting ready to exit than when entering or while laying in it.

Now I'm trying to decide if it would just be better for me to loose 20 pounds or to order the remaining materials for UL UQ.

Glad you didn't get hurt (although you appeared to be limping) & bummer that you lost your hammock.

I'm very interested in this topic of "shorter hammock equals more comfort". I was of the opinion that a longer hammock resulted in a flatter lay. I'll be monitoring this post with interest. As well as doing some experimenting with different hammock lengths.

    Thanks for the post.

The unexpected landing jolted my back pretty good, nothing a bit of vitamin I couldn't handle.

Sorry about the M50! We all have to learn the hard way "don't hang higher than you want to fall".

I'm getting ready to start my own DIY Hammock and considering Hammock Gear's Adam called me 'shorty' the other day when I was ordering my TQ, maybe a shorter hammock would be a good idea...(I'm only 5'2")

Smaller hammock, or Where did my calf ridge go?

Well we never know how far we can go until we get there.
Thanks for taking one for the team, Cat.
