As I read through this thread, what stands out to me other than size, is the fabrics. I don't see any hammocks listed made out of 1.6, 1.1, 1.0, M90, etc.

What I do see (I think...since I don't have most of these) are 1.9 oz (and up) fabrics, some of which are polyester and several are probably taffeta's or something other than ripstop.

I suspect body shape and mass distribution play a roll in calf ridge pressure as well. I theorize that concentrated mass in the center (think fat azz like me), stretches a band down the center making a tighter ridge that may be less able to form with heavier fabrics.

Just my thoughts and worth ~$0.02 as usual.

Interesting thoughts on the sizing. Since I'm making hammocks for the grand kids, I'm going to have to run a 9' x 4' out of 1.1 for myself and see what happens. Would certainly by a good cold weather option for a pea pod or sock. The socks for the 11 footer tend to be a bit on the large side.

I have wondered the same thing. There are so many variables it's hard to know what is going on. That relatively short Speer of mine is made of 1.9 oz single layer something. I have no idea what the Claytor No Net ( also way low on the calf pressure scale ) is made of, but it's dbl layer seems pretty stout and it has less sag than any hammock I have used. IOW, if I adjust the suspension to about waist height or whatever, after I get in it is going to stay closer to that height than any other hammock I have. How much of that is suspension vs hammock fabric, I have no clue.

Order three yards of M50 from Thru-Hiker tonight for V2 of my Lean Green Hammock. Going to shoot for the same dimensions as V1 but this time with a fabric that weighs less than half of the original's. Fingers and toes are most certainly going to be crossed till this project is completed and I find out once and for all; can M50 can hold me , or if I've just wasted $50.

Either way I'll do a video of its maiden voyage, since everyone loves to see vids of M50 hammocks. Come to think of it, I should probably try to loose a few pounds before I get in it. Guess it's rabbit food and running for me till the package arrives.

The dimensions I'm shooting for are 9' by 4.5'. They worked out wonderfully on the Lean Green V1 hammock and I'm hoping V2 to be just as comfortable at half the weight.

I've used my GT Ultralight for all my over night trips and can't complain. I'm 5'7" and I think the GTUL's 9.5' x 4.5' size is perfect.

Catavarie, I hope you bring the Lean Green V1 and V2 to the smoked butt hang, I would love to try them out for size. Good thoughts, thanks.
