query of interest into a hammock trade show

Been kicking an idea around in my head guys and probably not the first one to think this but what about a dedicated trade show/expo/convention type thing for hammock camping/backpacking? I have attached a poll to find out what the interest would be in attending.. If you get a chance please fill out the poll..I do have some experience with this sort of thing so was wondering..
    thanks

Wouldn't it have a better opportunity to succeed if all types of camping were included? In trade shows I've always tried one with the greatest number of potentially interested in the products we offered.

If it were close enough, I'd likely attend.

I'd much rather attend a larger event that more camping/outdoor general, not specific to hammocks or even to backpacking. Would make it easier to provide a larger audience and better attendance from all who love the outdoors. Of course have a nice big hammocking area would be great too.

This sounds like a great idea and that could fit right into the group hangs. My view is that the vendors could setup their gear at a group hang to show it off and talk about it. The group hangs are partially setup to show off and talk about the gear you own. I just believe that the vendors would have to get permission ahead of time and ad-hear to strict conduct regulations.

I would even be willing to be a speaker on the topic of, U.L. Hammocking and backpacking.

I think there may already be something like this - I've read about Tom Hennessy being at things like this (not to mention the vids that show him at them to 'prove' it on his site) - but maybe these are more for vendor to vendor rather than vendor to consumer ???
Dunno - but I agree with others, general outdoors would be nice, however I'm sure many of the cottage vendors out there would enjoy all of the vizibility if they were able to attend and there was a heavy influence of hammock gear consumers

This sounds kind of like Trail Days in Damascus.

Thats what got me thinking about it....only something more along the line with workshops ( for the diy crowd and noobs like me ) and speakers on different subjects etc.. and perhaps if it was like in febuary before the season starts and by somewhere the families who dont hike can have a place to be also...perhaps even get a few converts..lol just some thoughts and honestly, trail days is in of itself a tradition that has its own flair. This would be different i am thinking..

Do you envision this event as primarily for education with vendors conveniently on hand, or a vendor show that also has educational workshops for attendees? Personally, I would think the former would have a greater success.

Having well-known speakers, including a wider slice of outdoor interests, possibly including preparedness are some things could help ensure its success.

A potential downside to such an event would be the cost to attend and travel expenses. Most of the trade show events I've attended have some sort of cost associated with attending. The biggest ones usually don't but they are subsidized by vendors with deep pockets. One option would be to circulate smaller events around the country.

It might be worthwhile to survey vendors to see if there would be interest on their end in attending something like this. For the cottage vendors on HF, opportunities already exist, like Trail Days and all the group hangs with raffles, to get their products in front of people. They would need to answer for themselves if an expo type event would be of interest.

Another thing to consider, rather than starting something from scratch, is finding out the possibility of offering some workshops at an already established event like Trail Days. The people and vendors already have a reason to be there. You could perhaps tie in what you have to offer.

    These are just some thoughts.
