How do I get to Carey state Forrest?
How do I get to Carey state Forrest?
I-10W to US301. Go north on 301 to 90, turn right, then left again onto 301. Total distance is about 8 mi north of 10. Pass the fire station and the entrance to Cary (unmarked) will be the white road on the right. I forget the street name.

Auggiedog & myself just hung/camped their on the river it is nice & only a couple miles hike in I believe. We did have a few hikers show up & some horse riders everyone was friendly except the horses they pooped all over the place.
We decided we would stealth camp next time to avoid the lookers & poopers.
Is there a location decided on yet?? I would like to plan to come up for this as well....
I have enjoyed the primitive site at Gold Head. About a 3/4 mile hike down the FL Train from a parking lot in the park. I have hung there a couple of times with my Scouts.
Has a location been decided on yet? If so, I must have missed the post.

Hey folks - sorry for the long delay - there's been some leg work going on in the background working with land managers to find a spot that works and is local to Jacksonville.
So, without further ado, I just got off the phone with the fine folks at Cary State Forest and am happy to report that we are confirmed for March 22-25 at Cary State Forest.
I will get with the mods to update the initial post when I get to a proper PC.
As it stands, it looks like we will have room for 20+ hammocks - But I will be meeting with them in the near future to see if we can break through the tree line to support more folks

Great! I should be able to be up either the night of the 23rd, after work, or the morning of the 24th.
Looking forward to it!
Edit: A question for those folks that live in the area. I'm looking at Google Maps for route info to get up there, and it seems that the bike lane on 301 disappears north of Baldwin. Does anyone know a good route from Baldwin to the forest that doesn't involve heavy traffic and/or has a bike lane, one that won't take me twenty miles out of the way?
If not, that's okay; I can use the car for this one. I just wanted to find out. Thanks in advance!

Count me in - Cary is a great place to hang (I'm also married to one of the guys setting this up, so gotta be there when it's a local one! )
Just as a heads up for the guys - if you've been trying to get your significant other to attend a hang with you and they've been hesitant to "rough it", Cary has showers with HOT water, flushing toilets and sinks with running water.
It might be a great place to start and still have the "little luxuries".
