    ? Whoopie tarp guy lines

Just wondering why whoopie tarp lines don't seem to be a popular choice for a lot of hangers?
I had thought about making some, but didnt see a lot of info on the forum.
was wondering if weight seemed to be an issue?
For me I feel like guylines take more time to set up and put back than anything else,(4 season tarp) and it would seem the whoopies would make quick work of that.
I know they are being made and sold.
I was mostly hoping to hear more of why people would not want to use them.
Im currently using kelty trip tease, prussic to the stake

I can't speak for anyone else here, but I prefer self tensioning guy lines. I set it once and the shockcord keeps the tarp taught. A lot of people use tarp lines that are prussiced to either the tarp or the stake. Whoopie to me are great for hammock suspensions, but not so much for tarp guy lines. For instance if I wanted to tie off high to a tree a whoopie wouldn't do that for me, where as a regular line works great for it. Just one guys opinion on the matter.

I agree that they would be cool and quick to set up, but like catavarie said, they would limit where you can tie off. I personally use nite ize reflective line with nite ize figure nines. Works for me. HYOH.

Whoopies would limit how close you could pitch to the ground because the constrictor section.

Secondly they would require roughly double the amount of line, not that it would be a huge weight factor but in terms of tangling, etc. maybe not the most desirable.

Thirdly, whoopies are difficult to adjust/release while under a load.

Whoopies are also difficult to release under tension making them less than desirable for tarp use.

Prusiks on tarp tie outs make set up much easier. No tying and quick length adjustments.

I've started doing this and it's so easy. I've also been using a prusik on my ridge line. I leave a little extra line at the D ring and tie a bowline to the prusik. That lets me hang my tarp in the resulting long V.

A UCR would probably be the better choice if using a constrictor type guy line for two reasons: 1. half as much line required. 2. can easily tie off to a tree etc and take up the slack at the ucr.
HERE is an example by Opie.

I found your way is good but I found that using the Prusiks on tarps work for all this and adjustments. I think that is why most us The Prusiks way over the whoopi sling way. Plus its easier I have found.
