I recently converted both of our HH Exoeditions to whoopie hooks and continuous loops. The suspension holes in the hammock had lots of sharp flashing from the when the holes were melted through and I'm a little concerned about that flashing cutting the amsteel continuous loops.
Any thoughts? I'm wondering if I should try to trim off the flashing but I'm not sure how to do it...
Not sure I'd worry about that. I think the amsteel is tougher than the nylon, plus there shouldn't be really any movement to cause a problem.

I'd say there's virtually no chance of melted ripstop nylon cutting through Amsteel. Doesn't seem even remotely possible to me - I converted my HH to whoopies and don't share your concern.
I've been know to worry too much. Perhaps I should not be concerned about this. Thanks, fellas.

I was worried about it to. I just got a pair of wire cutters ("dikes") and snipped off the sharp bits. Used it on one hang so far and didn't wind up on my ***.

That's a great suggestion for you, but they should not pose a problem for ya!
They were really sharp! I did remove some of it initially with dikes as Theosus recommended but it is still crazy sharp. It's bothering me. I bought a cheap soldering iron this morning and I'm going to open both hammocks back up and smooth them out tomorrow while I spend 14 hours smoking a pork shoulder. It will be a fun project and then I won't have to worry any more. (OCD-alert!)

Thanks for the post, I decided to leave the old suspension on, because the bits and pieces of singed things were so sharp.
I have a supper duper little iron, it is meant to press quilting edges, which are about a 1/4 of an inch wide. It is like a soldering iron, with a nasty little iron shape on the end. I have burnt the heck out of my fingers with that little tool...
I am sure it would smooth out the sharp pieces left over from the heat cutting process. I am going to try it in the morning.
My soldering iron is supposed to be good for 750°. Does your iron get that hot? Let us know how it works.
