    Hammock/bivy combination?

I recently warched Dutch's vid on his backpack/bridge hammock combo and was amazed. It got me thinking about multiple use gear. This morning I watched IntenseAngler's vid on his DIY bivy tent and it set me to thinking. Why not a hammock/bivy combo? I know you can sort of use a hammock as a bivy already--provided you have a bug net. But maybe with a few modifications it'd work better and you'd have a really good bit of gear for hanging or ground. What do you think?

BTW this is the bivy tent I was looking at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaSM...e_gdata_player

Excellent idea!! I have been thinking about this same issue for a very long time. If anyone comes up with something that works I bet they can make a serious dent in the market. The one I've seen that appears to be on the right track is the alpine hammock : http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...alpine-hammock

I know there have been discussion on this hammock in the past. I wish they would get into production so people can try them out finally.

I would pay a little more and carry a little more weight if I could have just one piece of gear to think about and store. The Alpine Hammock, or something like it, would be my first choice.

That alpinehammock is interesting but I must say it doesn't look like a very comfortable hammock.

Take a look at the Lawson Blue Ridge. It's marketed as a hammock/tent, but its more like a hammock/bivy. Great hammock, great bivy, not much room as a tent.

I've read mixed reviews on the Lawson. It seems that it is quite heavy, and frequently has quality issues.

Yeah, you kind of get forced into the banana shape with no foot box.

I like the look of that. I was looking at a Snugpak bivy, but this may take it.

my current project is a bridge hammock / bivy. At least there you don't have the issues with a diagonal lay.

I know, I know, pictures or it didn't happen. That's OK because it hasn't happened yet, I'm still working on some sizing things.
