Hey Drop (and any other folks on that side of the pond) - there's another forum based in the UK that has several hammockers on it. They might know more about how hammocking specifically applies to your area, what materials are available over there, etc.

For a webbing source- another forum was discussing the re-purposeing of cargo tie-down straps- built strong, not too heavy (once you remove the metal bits!) and widely available at auto/parts/hardware stores. Hope this helps, Betsy

Thanks Jeff, I shadow that forum a lot and it's a great place to find UK specific info. I've noticed at least 2 of the BCUK members (apart from you and Patrick from KAQ) Nigel P and Ogri the Trog on here as well.

Currently I'm on the list for a group buy under quilt through BCUK (joy)

    Hi Drop

I get webbing and dynema line/ropefrom yacht chandlery places, plenty on the Isle of Wight! Cheap webbing that comes with some hammocks can be a bit stretchy and of poor quality.

That's a good source I had not thought about Nigel, thanks. They are a bit thinner on the ground in Gods own county so I went the climbing shop route.

Most of the webbing there is overkill and I am not too sure about the BnQ stuff so I may have a look at some online chandlery sites.
Any suggestions? my knowledge of the sailing scene is non-existant

BTW re the stretchy webbing, would this be the case on the DD hammock, there was a thread about them a while back. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=319

    Hi

Yes, the DD has really cheap webbing!! I tried to a find an online source for the webbing will look again later. If you are really stuck I will look locally but as i recall I got some polypropolene that has very low stretch and about 45p a metre.

re translations- and then, after hanging out on the net, you go and talk to some locals... cue blank expressions..
