My version on the DIY HH Hammock

Here is my version of the DIY Hennessy Hammock using Wally World dollar bin calendered nylon. I started out making the Knotty gathered end and well I ended up making a few changes and it transformed. I did use Knotty's stretch side mod on this and it worked out great. I posted one pic in headchange4u DIY Hennessy Hammock thread but was able to get out today during lunch and take some outdoor action shots.

here's the pic from last night hangin' in my garage

out by the lake in Training Area 5 ( wind was blowing )

top loop for peak bag and pillow tie out

More pics to come when I get the bug net attached.

Thank You headchange4u and Knotty for the instructions and great ideas

    Hope everybody likes

Well done. It looks rather bombproof.

As always, glad to see people going DIY.

Interesting applying the stretch-mod to a HH clone. How do you plan to accomodate that when it comes to installing the bugnet?

    Knotty,

I figured I would run an invert V of 1/2" grosgrain from the ridgeline to either side of the stretch side points and do a continuous zigzag of small diameter shock cord with a take up so I could release tension when getting in and out. It will be done to both sides of the hammock to keep the bug net out of my face and feet area. I will try and do a nifty drawing to help with the visualization of what I will be trying to do.

Sorry my paint skills aren't that great and you will have to imagine the bug net. The shock cord is located inside the bug net to keep the drape off of you when shock cord is tightened. Also I like this method because it will move and stretch when you change position as you sleep ( like the sides do) .

    color codes :

Pink : continuous light weight shock cord with cord lock at the top going through grosgrain loop tabs
    Red : 1/2" grosgrain
    orange : ridgeline
blue : sewn side of bug net
    green : zipper

In the illustrations you can see how the foot end stretched with the side while the head end didn't have that much stretch going on.

I hope that these illustrations helped

A micro back porch trip report on the new hammock.

I did my first overnight trial run on the back porch last night. It got down to 29*F and everything was going good until the dreaded full bladder kicked in around 0430. After the potty break my wife came down stairs and asked me " I thought you were sleeping out back tonight ? " . I told her that I was and had to void the bladder and I was sorry for waking her. She came out back and checked to see that I wasn't fibbing and stuck her hand in the M.S.S. and said " That's really warm in there " . I gave her a hug and I said " see you in a couple of hours at breakfast " which she replied " Don't freeze your 4th point of contact off and breakfast will be biscuits and gravy " and she went back inside. I crawled back in and drifted back off to sleep with thoughts of the coming breakfast. Only other complaint would be the HVAC system kept turning on and off all night keeping the house warm and the noise waking me up each time.

Pics added from this morning ( Issued Modular Sleep System , Nomex Balaclava , LazerBrite Modular Light , Thermometer ) :

    On a different note :

Today my Daughter's 5th B-Day party is taking place and my parents are coming up from Alabama. Dad is bringing me 3 PLs and I will be making 2 UQs and 1 Summer TQ ( I already have one PL here at the house converted into a Summer TQ ) ... My Son CJ7 will be happy to have a Summer Quilt set-up for his hammock.

Another micro report to follow tomorrow after another night of hangin' in the back porch A.O.

Great job on several counts: YOU HAVE YOUR CHILDREN INTERESTED IN CAMPING.
Very nice do it yourself and you did it economically. Your photograhps are great, I can see them.

    Excellent job.
